Lanarote, Canary Islands - Mirador del Rio

After going to La Cueva de los Verdes, we continued slightly further north to the Mirador del Rio - an amazing place almost 500 meters high.  The views from the Mirador del Rio rivaled all the views we saw during the 11 days on Lanzarote.

Once again touched by the hands of Cesar Manrique, the Mirador del Rio is a cafe-bar with panoramic windows and observation platforms so that you may view the Archipelago de Chinijo - La Graciosa, Montana Clara, Roque del Este, Roque del Oeste and Alegranza.  The islands appear to float before you and have very few inhabitants making them so very peaceful as you gaze upon them from above.

I actually walked along the road next to the Mirador del Rio and Josh went inside (the kids refused to get out of the car at this point so we each chose a destination while the other stayed with the kids)  to check out the view from in there.  I think both of us got some pretty cool shots...now to find some software that can knit some of these into panoramic shots (any suggestions??)...

Another sign designed by Cesar Manrique

View looking south (we drove this road back and it reminded me a lot of the road to Hana in Maui)

View of La Graciosa

More of the Archipielago de Chinijo

Stunning from way up high!

Trying (but not succeeding) to get a shot of the entire island

Fins to the right...

And fins to the left...

Shot of one of the cliffs

View from inside - bet its amazing (tell us Josh!)

Another view of the islands

And another :)

The mountains on the way back to Playa Blanca right after leaving Mirador del Rio

By far, Mirador del Rio was probably some of the most spectacular views I saw on this trip.  It's one of those things that only pictures can describe and mine just don't do it justice... you'll have to go see for yourself!
